Martin Luther King, Jr. was and American clergyman and activist, best known for his role in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is famous for using nonviolent civil disobedience in the advancement of civil rights. King helped to organize the March on Washington in 1963 where he delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
Martin Luther King, Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for combating racial prejudice through nonviolence. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. King received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal posthumously.
