Owner and CEO Joe Clare has always cared about doing business the right way. When he took over MTSO in 2012, it was the perfect way to combine his interests with his skills. "I've always been interested in massage therapy, and when I was younger, I even thought about becoming a massage therapist," Joe says. While his career took a different direction, his focus on sustainability, supporting small businesses, and choosing natural and local products has shaped what MTSO stands for today.
Quality and Sustainability in Every Stitch
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, especially in our onsite linens department. For almost 30 years, we’ve been making custom linens for massage therapists across Canada. Our linens coordinator, Ohla Zeredenko, plays a huge role in this. A newcomer from Ukraine, Ohla has become an essential part of our team, bringing skill and dedication to her work.
A few years ago, we redesigned our linens to cut down on fabric waste while keeping the same high quality our customers expect. We fine-tuned our patterns and chose materials carefully to make sure our linens last longer and create less waste. This effort helped us earn our B Corp Certification and is part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
More Than Just a Store
MTSO is about more than just products—we care about our community. Joe has supported local art by commissioning murals and sculptures for the store, including Free Rain by James K-M and Revisioning and Auricle by Debora Alanna. We’ve also created a garden and picnic area for the neighborhood and set up Little Free Libraries, including a French-language one, to share books with the community.
We believe that one business alone can make a difference, but together, we can create real change. As part of the B Corp community, we are always looking for new ways to improve, connect with more people, and do better.
